About this work

In PornHub: Sauce Code (3.5” Orange), Arlo Sinclair pushes his satire to bawdy extremes, merging the obsolescence of floppy disk technology with the provocative excess of internet pornography. Painted with his characteristic photorealistic precision, the translucent orange 3.5” disk bears a label reading: “Pornhub Sauce Code Backup Disk” with the handwritten amendment: “You turn my floppy disk HARD.” The cheeky pun reimagines a once-essential storage medium as the unlikely vessel for one of the internet’s most controversial and ubiquitous platforms. The humor is layered with irony. The floppy disk—capable of storing barely over a megabyte—would be hopelessly inadequate for hosting streaming adult content, yet Sinclair makes it a “backup disk” for an empire built on digital abundance. The phrase “Proudly supporting the birth rate decline since 2007” adds another punchline, pointing to pornography’s cultural and social entanglements while couching it in faux-advertising rhetoric.Beyond its surface humor, the work extends Sinclair’s ongoing project of recontextualizing technological fossils as satirical mirrors of cultural memory. The disk’s scratches, label creases, and handwritten scrawls are rendered with painstaking attention, elevating a disposable object into a cultural icon. By juxtaposing the outdated with the hyper-current, Sinclair asks viewers to consider how technologies—and the industries they enable—are both transient and enduring, disposable yet inescapably formative.Like the other works in his 2025 cycle, PornHub: Sauce Code sits at the intersection of Pop Art’s appropriation and Urban Contemporary’s sharp-edged critique. Echoing the irreverence of artists such as Richard Prince and Banksy, Sinclair uses parody and shock to hold a mirror to society’s obsessions, contradictions, and taboos—reminding us that what once seemed fleeting often becomes fossilized in the collective imagination. For more information or to buy Arlo Sinclair’s PornHub: Sauce Code (3.5” Orange), contact our galleries via info@guyhepner.com or via the form below.

About Arlo Sinclair

Arlo Sinclair is a London based artist, born in South Africa, whose work centers on obsolete technology. As a child, his grandfather repaired a broken Commodore 64 for him, and that machine became his introduction to coding and games, eventually leading him to write his own software before he could afford to buy it.

Sinclair paints and sculpts outdated hardware, including floppy disks, game cartridges, controllers, and broken consoles, treating each object as a kind of cultural artifact. His work balances nostalgia with critique, using the visual language of early computing and gaming to comment on how quickly new technology becomes outdated, and on broader themes like data privacy, corporate collapse, and digital culture. Series such as Too Big to Fail reference the decline of once dominant companies, while other bodies of work use retro formats to satirize internet subcultures and conspiracy theories.

Every piece includes small, deliberate details and references meant to reward close looking, reflecting the amount of time Sinclair spends developing an idea before he begins painting. His background as a programmer shows through in the precision of his compositions, even as the subject matter stays playful and irreverent.

Sinclair's work has built a strong following among collectors, particularly within the tech industry, and his editions have sold out quickly since his earliest releases.
