About this work
This striking large-scale work reimagines the iconic arcade game through Sinclair's signature layered approach. The piece features hand-painted elements on aluminum, integrated with paper and acrylic, creating a dimensional surface that shifts between nostalgic reference and contemporary artistic statement. The vibrant palette and geometric forms capture the essence of the classic PacMan maze, with pills and ghosts rendered in bold, graphic detail. Each element is meticulously crafted, with the artist's hand-painted label adding an artisanal touch that elevates the work beyond mere pop culture homage. Sinclair continues to bridge digital-age nostalgia with fine art sensibility, making works like this increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate the intersection of gaming culture and contemporary art practice. The substantial scale commands attention in any space, while the numbered edition status ensures exclusivity. Signed both on the verso and inside the frame, the piece carries the artist's distinctive authentication approach that has become a hallmark of his practice. About Arlo Sinclair
Arlo Sinclair is a London based artist, born in South Africa, whose work centers on obsolete technology. As a child, his grandfather repaired a broken Commodore 64 for him, and that machine became his introduction to coding and games, eventually leading him to write his own software before he could afford to buy it.
Sinclair paints and sculpts outdated hardware, including floppy disks, game cartridges, controllers, and broken consoles, treating each object as a kind of cultural artifact. His work balances nostalgia with critique, using the visual language of early computing and gaming to comment on how quickly new technology becomes outdated, and on broader themes like data privacy, corporate collapse, and digital culture. Series such as Too Big to Fail reference the decline of once dominant companies, while other bodies of work use retro formats to satirize internet subcultures and conspiracy theories.
Every piece includes small, deliberate details and references meant to reward close looking, reflecting the amount of time Sinclair spends developing an idea before he begins painting. His background as a programmer shows through in the precision of his compositions, even as the subject matter stays playful and irreverent.
Sinclair's work has built a strong following among collectors, particularly within the tech industry, and his editions have sold out quickly since his earliest releases.
