About Javier Mayoral

Javier Mayoral, known online as PulpBrother, was born in Spain, where he worked briefly for an advertising company before moving to the United States in his early thirties. He lived in New York, Phoenix, and San Francisco before eventually settling in Miami, where he now works full time as a painter.

Mayoral is entirely self-taught and worked as a chef for years while painting on the side, developing his style through small acrylic works on wood. His paintings are minimal and direct, typically pairing a single, easily recognizable figure with a witty or blunt handwritten caption, drawing on the visual language of advertising and illustration. His background in that industry shows through in the poster-like clarity of his compositions.

His work blends humor with pointed social and psychological commentary, taking cues from popular culture, Freudian ideas, and everyday absurdity, often delivered with a deadpan or irreverent tone. Mayoral built much of his early following directly through social media, where his fast, prolific output and consistent visual style resonated with a broad audience. He has since produced thousands of paintings and exhibited across the United States and in Spain, Austria, and France.
