Taher Jaoui's practice is grounded in a conviction that surfaces — of paint, of experience, of social interaction — are always the visible layer of something more complex and less easily accessed beneath. His paintings investigate this fundamental condition of depth and concealment, using the layered materiality of oil and acrylic to create surfaces that enact the very dynamic they explore.
