About this work
Jesse Morsberger has established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary figurative painting, garnering significant attention from collectors who recognize his ability to merge classical technique with contemporary sensibility. His work occupies a compelling position within the current landscape of representational art, appealing to those who value technical mastery alongside conceptual depth. Red Version presents a striking study in chromatic intensity and compositional restraint. The canvas commands attention through Morsberger's confident handling of oil paint, where rich vermilion and crimson tones dominate the surface with assertive presence. The artist demonstrates his characteristic approach to color as both subject and emotional vehicle, allowing the red palette to create visual weight and psychological resonance. Brushwork throughout the piece reveals a practiced hand, with visible gestural marks contributing texture and movement while maintaining formal coherence. The work exemplifies Morsberger's ongoing investigation into how color fields interact with figurative or abstract elements, creating tension between representation and pure painterly expression. At 24 by 20 inches, the intimate scale encourages close viewing, rewarding the observer with subtle tonal variations and material qualities that might escape initial impression. This 2025 work represents the artist's current trajectory, demonstrating continued evolution within his established visual language while pushing into new territory. Collectors following Morsberger's development will find Red Version to be an essential example of his mature practice. Guy Hepner invites inquiries from collectors seeking to acquire this work. About Jesse Morsberger
Jesse Morsberger was born in Brooklyn in 1994 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He received his BFA in Drawing and Painting from SUNY Purchase College in 2016. He was a fellow/resident at the Vermont Studio Center in 2020, and has exhibited with institutions and galleries including Nicodim Gallery, Kravets Wehby Gallery, Milk Gallery, Taymour Grahne Projects, Andrea Festa Fine Art, and COVA Art Gallery.
His practice is heavily influenced by video games and the visual language of digital worlds. Growing up, gaming was a significant part of his life, providing an alternate space for fantasy and escape. His paintings translate the 16-bit aesthetics of games into traditional oil painting, creating a deliberate tension between the pixelated, digital image and the physicality of paint.
