About this work

Jesse Morsberger has established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary painting, recognized for his ability to bridge the worlds of popular culture and fine art with technical sophistication and conceptual depth. His work occupies a significant position within the growing movement of artists who draw from video game aesthetics, transforming digital landscapes into contemplative painterly experiences that resonate with collectors seeking both nostalgia and artistic rigor. Hyrule Field presents viewers with a richly atmospheric interpretation of one of gaming's most beloved environments. Morsberger's oil technique transforms the familiar terrain into something simultaneously recognizable and newly strange, rendered with a painterly sensibility that elevates the source material into the realm of traditional landscape painting. The artist demonstrates considerable command of light and color, imbuing the scene with a quality that hovers between memory and dream. Brushwork ranges from precise architectural detail to looser, more expressive passages that allow the medium itself to assert its presence. The composition draws the eye across the canvas with careful attention to depth and spatial rhythm, while the palette evokes both the original digital imagery and the tradition of plein air painting that precedes it. This work represents a compelling example of Morsberger's ongoing investigation into how virtual spaces can be translated through physical media, questioning the boundaries between lived experience and constructed reality. The painting speaks to a generation for whom digital environments hold genuine emotional weight and cultural significance. Guy Hepner is pleased to offer this important work for acquisition. About Jesse Morsberger

Jesse Morsberger was born in Brooklyn in 1994 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He received his BFA in Drawing and Painting from SUNY Purchase College in 2016. He was a fellow/resident at the Vermont Studio Center in 2020, and has exhibited with institutions and galleries including Nicodim Gallery, Kravets Wehby Gallery, Milk Gallery, Taymour Grahne Projects, Andrea Festa Fine Art, and COVA Art Gallery.

His practice is heavily influenced by video games and the visual language of digital worlds. Growing up, gaming was a significant part of his life, providing an alternate space for fantasy and escape. His paintings translate the 16-bit aesthetics of games into traditional oil painting, creating a deliberate tension between the pixelated, digital image and the physicality of paint.
