H18-3 Psychedelic is a diasec-mounted giclée on aluminium created by Damien Hirst in 2024, part of his H18 Kaleidoscopes series. Produced in an edition of 180 plus 20 Artist's Proofs and measuring 33½ by 55⅛ inches, the work takes its title from the hallucinogenic visual character of the butterfly wing composition — a term that situates the work within a tradition of art that aspires to expand and transform perceptual experience. The psychedelic effect is not merely metaphorical: the kaleidoscopic arrangement of wings creates genuine optical phenomena that shift and intensify under sustained viewing. The butterfly wing compositions of the Kaleidoscopes series achieve their psychedelic effect through the interaction of pattern, symmetry, and color at multiple scales simultaneously.
