Myths for Sale

Andy Warhol's Myths (1981) is one of the most beloved and playful series in his entire catalogue — a ten-print portfolio that reimagines the icons of American popular culture as modern mythology. Catalogued as FS II.257–266, the series is among Warhol's most widely collected works, beloved for its wit, its warmth, and the extraordinary range of imagery it compresses into a single portfolio.

The ten prints portray: Mickey Mouse, Howdy Doody, The Star (Greta Garbo), Mammy, Santa Claus, The Shadow, Dracula, Witch, Superman, and Uncle Sam. Taken together, they constitute a complete survey of 20th-century American fantasy — the fictional characters, folk figures, and screen archetypes that shaped the national imagination as powerfully as any real historical event.

Edition Information

Published in an edition of 200 per image, with artist's proofs and printer's proofs. Each print measures 38 × 38 inches, printed on Lenox Museum Board. Published by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, New York, and printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York.

Market Context

Myths prints are among the most actively traded Warhol works at auction and in the private market. Mickey Mouse and Superman are consistently the most sought-after images in the series, regularly achieving strong results at Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillips. The Mickey Mouse print in particular has a dedicated collector base that extends well beyond the traditional Warhol market. Complete portfolios are relatively rare; individual prints offer accessible entry points across a wide price range.

Collector Note

The Myths series has something for almost every collector — childhood icons, cultural archetypes, and Warhol's signature graphic power all in one portfolio. Guy Hepner Gallery offers Myths prints for sale, including the most sought-after individual images. Enquire for current availability and pricing.
