About this work

Punkmetender has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary art, building a practice that bridges street art sensibilities with refined material experimentation. Working under this moniker, the artist has cultivated a following among collectors drawn to work that balances raw urban energy with sophisticated craftsmanship and unexpected material combinations. *698* exemplifies the artist's ongoing exploration of transformation and metamorphosis through the butterfly motif—a recurring symbol in Punkmetender's oeuvre that speaks to themes of change, fragility, and transcendence. The 48 x 48 inch canvas commands presence through its substantial scale, allowing the viewer to fully engage with the interplay of materials that defines the work. The aluminum butterfly element introduces an industrial counterpoint to the organic gesture of acrylic paint, while the application of diamond dust creates a luminous surface quality that shifts with ambient light, rewarding extended viewing. This mixed-media approach places Punkmetender within a lineage of artists who have pushed beyond traditional painting boundaries, recalling the material innovations of artists who incorporated industrial and precious elements into their practice. The work demonstrates technical confidence in its layering of disparate materials—each serving a distinct purpose in the overall composition while maintaining visual cohesion. Created in 2024, *698* represents the artist's current trajectory, showing a mature command of the techniques that have become signatures of the practice. The numbered title suggests placement within a larger body of work, positioning this piece as part of an evolving artistic investigation rather than an isolated statement. About Punkmetender

Roman Lefebvre is a French multidisciplinary artist based in Miami. Born in Paris and shaped by nearly two decades in Los Angeles, Lefebvre played an integral role in developing the visual identity, design language and studio practice of Mr. Brainwash during the formative years of his international career. He is featured in the Academy Award- nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop and worked alongside Banksy and other influential figures of the international street-art movement.

Under the name Punkmetender, Lefebvre subsequently established an independent international practice spanning painting, sculpture, installation and large-scale public work. His works are held in prominent private collections internationally, including those of a member of the Getty family, Mariah Carey, Khloé Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Dave Navarro, among others.

Now working under his own name, Lefebvre is expanding his practice through digital film and Membrane, a materially layered series examining perception, memory and the unstable boundary between image and reality. Moving between contemporary digital figures and historical imagery transformed through oil painting, abrasion, handwritten language and transparent epoxy resin, his work explores how beauty is preserved, disrupted and reinterpreted across time.
