About this work

Punkmetender has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary art, merging street art sensibilities with refined material experimentation. Working at the intersection of urban culture and luxury aesthetics, the artist has cultivated a following among collectors drawn to work that challenges traditional boundaries between high and low art forms. *693* exemplifies Punkmetender's signature approach to surface and symbolism. The work features an aluminum butterfly element—a recurring motif in the artist's practice representing transformation and impermanence—set against an acrylic ground enhanced with diamond dust. This combination of industrial metal, traditional painting medium, and crystalline particles creates a tension between the organic and the manufactured, the delicate and the enduring. The substantial 48 x 48 inch scale allows the interplay of materials to command physical presence while the reflective qualities of both the aluminum and diamond dust ensure the work shifts dynamically with changing light conditions. Created in 2024, this piece represents the artist's continued evolution in material sophistication. Punkmetender's decision to work on stretched canvas rather than found surfaces or alternative supports signals a deliberate engagement with art historical conventions, even as the incorporation of unconventional elements disrupts expectations. The numerical title maintains the artist's preference for abstracted naming conventions, inviting viewers to engage with formal qualities rather than prescribed narratives. Guy Hepner is pleased to offer this significant work from Punkmetender's current practice, and invites collectors to contact the gallery directly regarding acquisition.

About Punkmetender

Roman Lefebvre is a French multidisciplinary artist based in Miami. Born in Paris and shaped by nearly two decades in Los Angeles, Lefebvre played an integral role in developing the visual identity, design language and studio practice of Mr. Brainwash during the formative years of his international career. He is featured in the Academy Award- nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop and worked alongside Banksy and other influential figures of the international street-art movement.

Under the name Punkmetender, Lefebvre subsequently established an independent international practice spanning painting, sculpture, installation and large-scale public work. His works are held in prominent private collections internationally, including those of a member of the Getty family, Mariah Carey, Khloé Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Dave Navarro, among others.

Now working under his own name, Lefebvre is expanding his practice through digital film and Membrane, a materially layered series examining perception, memory and the unstable boundary between image and reality. Moving between contemporary digital figures and historical imagery transformed through oil painting, abrasion, handwritten language and transparent epoxy resin, his work explores how beauty is preserved, disrupted and reinterpreted across time.
