# Tenderly This luminous painting captures the intimate perspective of viewing the world through a rain-streaked windshield. Thielker masterfully renders the interplay of water droplets and refracted light across the glass surface, creating an atmospheric veil that both obscures and transforms the landscape beyond. His meticulous oil painting technique achieves remarkable realism, depicting how moisture distorts and fragments our view while simultaneously adding layers of visual poetry to an everyday driving experience. Thielker has become renowned for his windshield paintings, which elevate ordinary moments of transit into meditative reflections on perception and presence. This work exemplifies his ability to find beauty in the ephemeral and overlooked, inviting viewers to reconsider the aesthetics of their daily journeys. His paintings resonate with collectors who appreciate contemporary realism that merges technical virtuosity with conceptual depth, transforming the mundane into something tender and profound. Gregory Thielker is an American artist currently based in Geneva, Switzerland, known for hyperrealistic oil paintings that capture the experience of perception itself. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ringling College of Art and Design and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.
Thielker's paintings are meticulously rendered, often taking weeks or months to complete, and focus on scenes viewed through obscured or shifting perspectives, most notably roads and landscapes seen through rain-streaked car windows. His series Under the Unminding Sky captures these blurred, in-between moments, using precision technique to convey something closer to memory or mood than a straightforward record of place. Working from personal photographs and direct observation, he is drawn to how the road frames and limits the way landscape is experienced.
His work has taken him around the world, including extended projects in India, Afghanistan, El Salvador, and along the entire length of the US Mexico border. He is a Fulbright Fellow and has completed residencies in Norway, Argentina, and India, among others.
Thielker has exhibited throughout the United States and abroad, with venues including Guy Hepner in New York, Galerie Le Feuvre & Roze in Paris, and Castor Gallery in New York. His work has been featured in Juxtapoz, The Guardian, and La Repubblica.
