In this work, Lichtenstein replaces the flickering brushstrokes of light and atmosphere with dense, industrial Ben-Day dots rendered in stark black and red.Here, the haystacks are only faintly legible, emerging through the rhythmic system of dots that dominate the composition. Unlike Monet, who explored the transience of light, Lichtenstein presents an image of pure visual mechanics. Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) is the defining figure of American Pop Art and one of the most actively traded artists on the post-war and contemporary market.
