About Mr. Brainwash
Mr. Brainwash is the alias of Thierry Guetta, a French-American contemporary artist born in 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse, France. He moved to Los Angeles at 15. There, an obsession with filming led him into the world of street art, where he documented artists including his cousin Invader, Shepard Fairey and Banksy.
Encouraged by Banksy to make his own work, Guetta adopted the name Mr. Brainwash. His debut exhibition, Life Is Beautiful (2008), was staged in a converted Los Angeles TV studio and became a landmark event. He gained international recognition after appearing in Banksy's Oscar-nominated 2010 documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.
His work blends street art, Pop Art and celebrity culture through bold stencils, spray-paint drips and bright color. He remixes icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Albert Einstein alongside uplifting slogans like Life Is Beautiful and Follow Your Heart. He has designed album covers for Madonna and Rick Ross. In 2022 he opened the Mr. Brainwash Art Museum in Beverly Hills.
Today his paintings, sculptures and limited edition prints are collected worldwide.
