It Will Work Out, 2026
Mixed Media on Raw Acrylic Canvas | Hand-Framed with Oak
81 x 100 cm | 32 x 39 Inches
David Schmitt has established himself as a compelling voice in contemporary mixed media practice, building a dedicated collector base through works that balance emotional resonance with formal sophistication. His pieces have garnered attention for their ability to communicate complex psychological states through deceptively simple visual language, positioning him as an artist of considerable interest within the current market landscape. It Will Work Out presents viewers with a composition that embodies both vulnerability and quiet assurance. Executed on raw acrylic canvas, the work exploits the interplay between treated and untreated surfaces, allowing the natural texture of the substrate to participate actively in the image-making process. Schmitt's characteristic approach to mixed media is evident here, layering pigment, gesture, and material intervention to create a surface that rewards sustained attention. The hand-framed oak border serves not merely as containment but as an integral element of the work, grounding the composition in craftsmanship and intentionality. At 81 by 100 centimetres, the scale invites intimate engagement while maintaining sufficient presence for prominent installation. The title itself operates as both statement and aspiration, suggesting the artist's ongoing investigation into themes of uncertainty, hope, and the narratives we construct to navigate an unpredictable world. This tension between anxiety and optimism gives the work its particular emotional weight. Created in 2026, this piece represents Schmitt's continued evolution and commitment to authentic expression through material experimentation. Guy Hepner welcomes inquiries from collectors seeking to acquire this significant work. David Schmitt is a self-taught painter and printmaker based in Barcelona.
In his work, he blends folk storytelling with street sensibility, pairing an archaic, childlike aesthetic with bold visual presence and commentary. He highlights texture and rough shapes to capture a sense of timeless simplicity while exploring themes of love, craft, and human connection.
“I have always been drawn to storytelling in painting. For me, it sits somewhere between folk-, pop-, and cave art — something deeply human. My work can be read as a love letter to all forms of traditional craftsmanship, as I believe that preserving the involvement of the human hand and mind, with all its imperfections, is a way of preserving the soul in the world around us.”
