Sol Felpeto: Between Art and Cartoon

Sol Felpeto was studying to be a veterinarian in Buenos Aires when she realized the life she was building was not the one she needed. At twenty-one she left Argentina, moved to Madrid alone, and enrolled in fashion design and creative direction at the European Institute of Design. She never looked back.

What she made is called Arttoons, a style she coined to describe the particular place her work occupies: between art and cartoon, between high culture and the images that actually live in people's hearts. She has said that making a connection between the known and the new to create emotion is her goal, and that she wants people to look at her work and smile. Both things are true of everything she paints.

Felpeto understands that a generation does not love these figures differently. They are all myths. They are all people we believed in, in the particular way you believe in someone before the world teaches you to be careful about it.
