Jonas Wood: In Bloom
Select Works From The Double Basketball Orchid Series
About This Collection
In the Double Basketball Orchid series, Jonas Wood stages one of his most enduring formal preoccupations: the collision of the domestic and the athletic. A basketball, rendered with Wood's signature flattened, graphic sensibility, sits in dialogue with an orchid's looping stems and petals — two forms that share almost nothing except the artist's insistence on treating them equally as pattern, color, and shape. The effect is at once nostalgic and analytical, pulling from the personal collections and interiors that populate Wood's paintings while pushing the vocabulary of still life somewhere entirely his own.
Each print in the series is a hand-pulled, multi-layer lithograph on Rives BFK, produced in close collaboration with master printers — a process that lets Wood build the same density of color and surface he achieves in oil and gouache. Editions are small and signed, and given Wood's growing market and the enduring popularity of his basketball works, they remain among the most sought-after prints in his catalogue.
