Odours Of Punt is a screenprint based on an original 1983 composition by Jean-Michel Basquiat, released posthumously by his Estate in 2024 through Flatiron Editions. Its title references the ancient Land of Punt, a trading partner of Egypt renowned in antiquity for exporting incense, myrrh, and other aromatic goods — a historical reference point that sits alongside Basquiat's recurring interest in ancient African civilizations, trade, and cultural memory largely omitted from conventional Western art-historical narratives.

The composition combines Basquiat's Xerox-collage technique with layered paint and oil stick, producing large gestural color fields pierced by text fragments and cave-like markings, an effect the artist achieved through repeated over-painting rather than a single decisive pass. Juxtapositions of color and semi-legible text create a surface that rewards sustained looking, characteristic of the dense, palimpsest-like quality found throughout his mature work.
