Overview
Movement, territory, and memory shape the work of artist Gregory Thielker.
Gregory Thielker uses drawing and painting, as well as sound and installation, to unpack perceptions and narratives of specific places. Hyper-realistic representation serves as a tool for a slow, meticulous transcription of the physical sites, as well as documentation of the artist’s contact with each place. His images reveal a critical glance, give pause for contemplation, and allow memory to affect our impressions.
He has exhibited throughout the United States and abroad. Recent exhibition venues include Castor Gallery, New York, Brown University, The Brattleboro Art Museum, Vermont, Republic Gallery, Paris, and Flashpoint Gallery, Washington, DC. He is the recipient of many grants and residencies including the Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Award, Sanskriti-Kendra Residency in Delhi, Hybrid Art Projects Residency in El Salvador, and the American Scandinavian Foundation Artist Grant. His work has been featured by The Guardian, Vermont Public Radio, The Independent, La Repubblica, and New American Painting.
Gregory Thielker currently lives in Geneva, Switzerland and the United States.

The exhibition features a collection of large-scale canvases that capture the interplay between light and shadow, revealing the city’s quiet beauty after dark. Each piece conveys a sense of solitude and introspection, as Thielker expertly translates the atmospheric conditions of night driving into visual poetry. This exploration of nighttime landscapes serves not only as an artistic expression but also as a meditation on the deeper emotional resonance found in solitude and the passage of time.
"For me, driving at night is about becoming lost in time. I love the sound of rain pattering on the car and the rhythmic swish of the wiper blades. In the daytime we are always conscious of the next place to be, but at the end of the day, the pressure eases, and thoughts and memories become more fluid. Making the paintings then is a way to get back to that feeling, while slowly building it on the canvas."Exhibitions-
