Unique Variations
Guy Hepner is pleased to unveil Dylan Martinez's latest series Water Balloons.
Beyond their technical and conceptual merits, Martinez's sculptures have a unique ability to evoke deep emotional responses from viewers. They can trigger nostalgia, transporting viewers back to their childhoods when water balloon fights were a source of joy and laughter.
The juxtaposition of the seemingly fragile balloon with the permanence of glass can also evoke a sense of poignancy, reminding us of the transient nature of beauty and life itself. Each piece is solid sculpted glass that has been sandblasted and acid etched to give it the look and feel of a real water balloon. The water balloons are made in small batches, each color hand mixed. This means no two batches will be the same. Some colors will be repeated, although there will be variance in the hue and density from batch to batch.
