One moment, different here or there would it have mattered, was I always meant to be on this path leading me here, this force driving me always to these moments, these exciting moments. Before we go any further yes the lion is real, and this is probably the craziest photo I have ever taken, this is The Lion Queen from my new series Fairytale. We were not sure how close we could be able to get, would the lion be nice, would he pose for me as she did, that was the question. This photo was taken with no cages, no rapid fire camera, nothing to protect her or I, it was taken on film the way it was meant to be taken one shot at a time. I only had 2 takes at this and got it on the first one. This photo has been in my mind for years, on this day for this series it finally happened, A real lion, the dress is really flying the moment took shape and formed a life of its own. I am very happy to share this with you all it took me one second to take this photo, but a life time to create it." - Tyler Shields on the making of the Lion QueenTyler Shields has often referred to his process as an artist as, “finding a way to create a fantasy and let imagination take over.” This sentiment is especially true in his series Fairytale where he combines reality and fantasy. Oftentimes viewers look at these ethereal pieces and fall under the assumption that Photoshop or special effects have been applied, yet Shields makes it a point to create every scene from scratch.
