“My first art show was in a pizza place in Provincetown that I didn’t expect much from, but [it] ended up being a sold‑out show. When I was first starting out there were so many supportive people in the community that believed in me and I owe [them] a lot of my success today because I’m lucky enough to live here.”

Derek Macara is an American artist born in 1987. Macara's artwork can be found around the world. He is popularly known for his paintings depicting rural New England scenery, particularly for his depictions of his native Cape Cod. Raised in the art colony of Provincetown, his upbringing exposed him to many well-known and prolific artists. As a child, he spent several years studying at the Hawthorne School of Art. Recently, Macara's work has been gaining notoriety amongst art collectors and museums. He currently lives and works in his hometown of Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Macara's early debut was humble yet impactful: a local show in a pizza place that sold out unexpectedly, marking the beginning of his art career. Since then, his work has gained international attention, reaching collectors, galleries, museums, and auction houses.

Further fueled by his creative energy, Macara has also leveraged social media - particularly TikTok and Instagram - to share his painting process with a broad audience. His videos, which depict a blank canvas transforming into immersive seascapes, have gone viral, helping him build a following in the hundreds of thousands.
