Eric Stefanski  is a contemporary American painter whose work explores the intersection of humor, failure, and the romanticized "struggle" of the artistic life. Based in Chicago, Stefanski has become a leading voice in the new wave of text-based expressionism, known for his ability to distill complex existential anxieties into bold, neon-soaked declarations. Stefanski earned his B.A. from DePaul University and his M.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, Boston. His academic background in art history deeply informs his practice, though he often approaches the "Great Masters" with a subversive, blue-collar irony.

Stefanski’s work is primarily a diaristic investigation into the psyche of the artist. By using thick, impasto textures and a palette that leans heavily into flamboyant pinks, deep purples, and electric oranges, he creates a visual tension with his often self-deprecating text. His most famous motifs—phrases like "I’m a Genius, I’m a Fraud" or "The Art World Is a Cruel Mistress"—serve as both a critique of the high-stakes art market and an honest confession of the imposter syndrome that plagues creative production.

In recent years, Stefanski has transitioned from a cult Chicago figure to an internationally recognized name. His 2024–2026 exhibition cycle has seen him expand into the European and Asian markets, with major solo presentations in Barcelona, New York, and Taiwan.

By blending the aesthetic of a dive-bar sign with the gravitas of a museum-scale canvas, Eric Stefanski has carved out a unique space in contemporary art where the viewer is invited to laugh at the absurdity of life while simultaneously acknowledging its profound difficulty.
